Research

Although the District cut the research section and is not directly conducting research studies, we are partnering with Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) on a study that will benefit the District and Lee County. LCMCD was able to partner with FGCU this year on a research project and received a $100,000 grant to study non-target effects of aerial adulticiding.

Research to evaluate new products and new application techniques for control of adult and immature mosquitoes has always been an integral part of the District’s operational programs. Since its onset, the District has participated in cooperative research and development projects with universities, mosquito control districts, pesticide manufacturers, and state, federal, and international  research laboratories affiliated with the USDA, CDC, DOD, WHO, UNDP, and USAID. The District’s goal is to stay abreast of all the latest mosquito-control technologies, and continually update the operational programs with the safest and most cost-effective products and application techniques. Below you will find information on past research, patents and presentations.
